White Man's Burden

Egg tempera on canvas laid onto board, framed
12" x 8" (30 x 20 cm)
Collection of the artist

This was the first pixellated painting I ever did, around 1999, very much feeling my way with the process The figure carrying a rock was borrowed from Eadweard Muybridge's photographs of "The Human Figure in Motion". I changed the rock to a golden globe, so he is carrying the "burden" of wealth. It was years before I did any more pixellated paintings and invented the term "Quadratic Pointillism" for them.
