02-16 Composition VI

This painting was an experiment in working on wet canvas. The paint spreads around and colours merge into one another, blurring the edges. Having created this nebulous blueish region I surrounded it with carbon black and was suddenly in deep space. Not all black is equal, however. The lines and circles are painted with "mars" black which is really a very dark brown. The sharp mars black lines push the nebula into the distance and make it look as if we are approaching it in some kind of space craft.
