A meditation on the material properties of linen - the weave, the colour, the texture. Plenty of linen to see here, and some ribbons gently undulating across it. The most successful trompe l'oeil illusions don't try too hard. No prancing horses leaping out of the canvas, just a few millimetres of depth to convince you of, with some shadows and subtle shading. Jean-Etienne Liotard was brilliant at this. I've seen some amazing paintings he did of marble reliefs. Same principle: don't try too hard!
