Captive Spaces
I've recently become enchanted with the concept of capturing small spaces and turning them into intense three dimensional worlds - the spatial equivalent of poems. It's a development of my abstract paintings and an idea I tested out several years ago. In the last year I've taken it much further and the visual language is evolving in interesting ways. It's moving towards layered and painted wooden collages with canvas and other objects including figures. A hybrid of sculpture and painting with antecedents including Ben Nicholson and Joseph Cornell, forms and colours inspired by Paul Klee.
